Jacob Crafford Burger started working as an Interior Designer while he was still obtaining his formal qualification.

After the completion of his Diploma in Interior Design at Rita Linde Interior & Design School in Cape-Town, he consulted in a freelance capacity with his extended network before diversifying his spatial design skills by undertaking and completing a Landscaping course at ElaineScape in Somerset West. Subsequently he worked as a contracted consultant on their landscaping projects.

Thereafter Jacob was awarded an internship at Hertex in Somerset West, where he came to know a great deal about textiles and gained experience in showroom management.

After completing his internship, he began his working career as a visual merchandiser for the homeware department at Woolworths (Tygervalley, Canal Walk, Cavendish Square and Paarl Mall). During this period Jacob’s attention to detail and creative abilities gained the attentions of D & K Fashions, a collective of Errol Arends, Bogart Wear, Morgan de Toi and NafNaf Paris. They offered him a Visual Merchandiser position for their Johannesburg stores.

Shortly after his skills building experience with D & K, he was exposed to EssentialLife. It was there that he became inspired by South African contemporary design. This had a big impact on Jacob and as a result he resigned, moved down to Cape Town and started his own company, Kojabu Interior & Lifestyle.

The opportunity arose to open A Place alongside Aleit Swanepoel and the venture was grabbed with great excitement. His vision was to work with a small collaboration of selected contemporary designers and artists. After a few months working together with A Place and the rest of “The Aleit Group”, doing styling for corporate events and weddings including floral art and arranging, he decided to go back to working on his own brand, Kojabu Interior & Lifestyle, which he is now trading under.

In his free time, he works on his men’s fashion range “Jakob” another dream that will shortly turn into a tangible reality.

Jacob is based in Cape Town and Johannesburg and undertakes the entire design process, from interior architectural design as well as custom furniture, art pieces and landscaping.

He also offers a full project management package alongside his design service.
